Durham Domestic Home Clean Case Study

This week we were contacted by a woman who ran a B&B in County Durham. She informed us that she had been running her business for the past five years and while she usually did all of the cleaning herself, she now felt that the building need a more comprehensive clean than she was able to give it. She told us that the B&B consisted of seven separate rooms that were available for booking, as well as her and her husband’s part of the house, which was made up of two more bedrooms, and a few reception rooms. She also asked us to clean all of the windows on the inside and shampoo all of the carpets, which we agreed to do.

We arrived at the property, a four-story house in County Durham at 9am, keen to get started straight away. Our customer was there to meet us and show us around the property and point out the areas that needed particular attention, such as the oven in the kitchen and several of the carpets in the guest rooms. We decided to get started on the windows first though, and as there were 16 rooms in the house in total, there were quite a few for us to get through. While several members of our team tackled the windows, the rest of us got started on the large kitchen, which was the room that was in need of most attention in the property.

We scrubbed and scoured all of the surfaces, and spent a lot of time degreasing the oven, which was caked in many years worth of grease and grime. The kitchen floor was also covered in lots of ancient layers of grease, so armed with our professional steam cleaner, we went over it several times, until we had returned it to its original polished state. All in all, the kitchen took us two hours to clean from top to bottom, and we were then ready to move onto the rest of the property. The guestrooms were in a variety of different states, and although they were all pretty clean superficially, on closer inspection we could see that many of the rooms were actually quite dirty, especially the carpets which were definitely in need of a good shampooing if they were to be returned to their original state.

Armed with a wide variety of cleaning tools, we shampooed them all, dusted all of the corners and wiped down all of the surfaces. We also beat the rugs and the curtains to remove all of the dust that had gathered there, and advised our customer to get all of the curtains professionally dry-cleaned, which she agreed was a good idea.

After we had finished with the guest rooms, we moved onto the communal areas, such as the hallways, the dining room and the lounge. These were all in a fairly good condition and all of them had wooden floors so we were not required to do anymore shampooing. We dusted though, and vacuumed and waxed the wooden floors and wiped down all of the surfaces.

Once we had returned all of these rooms to an excellent state of cleanliness it was time to move onto our customers’ private quarters, which were at the top of the property. These rooms consisted of two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and a study. All of these rooms were much less clean than the ones in the B&B and therefore required more dusting, vacuuming and scrubbing than the others had. Within a further two hours though we had managed to completely clean all of these rooms and bring them up to a high standard of cleanliness.

We then took a final look around the entire property to make sure that we hadn’t forgotten anything, and satisfied with our work, we locked up the property and posted the keys back through the letterbox as our customers had asked us to do.
