Sophie’s Cleaning Tips

Move in or out clean

It’s often said that moving house is one of the most stressful things we’ll ever do.  There’s the organisation, packing, de-cluttering as well as all the legal technicalities.

So when we do move into our dream abode, we want to make sure it is clean, and we also want to leave behind a clean house for newcomers to enjoy.

The best thing to do is start as you mean to go on. You wouldn’t want to move into a home that was filthy, would you? So when all the packing has been finalised, start cleaning.  Make it a final point on your list of jobs to do.

You probably won’t have time to deep clean, but ensuring the bathroom and kitchen are clean, the carpets are vacuumed, the fridge and freezer are emptied and wiped down, and even opening the windows for a couple of hours to get some air in will suffice.

It could well that the new owners will not be moving in on the same day that you move out, so you want to make sure it is as fresh as possible (but always ensure windows are closed and locked before you leave).

Once you have arrived at your new premises, it’s easy. Just apply the above steps to your new place. Ensure that you have a bag of cleaning utensils handy; cloths, dusters, polish and cleaning products or if you prefer using a steam cleaner instead of cleansing products, make sure it’s one of the first things to come out of the removal van along with the vacuum.

Remember, a tidy home is a tidy mind, it’s always better to clean thoroughly before you unpack everything as you’re starting with a clean slate with no obstacles to get in your way.  Good luck and happy moving!
