Cleaning up after the break up

As the song says, “breaking up is hard to do.” But what often makes it so much harder to do is looking around at everything you once shared. Here, we share some tips for moving on and embracing freedom.

#1 Out of sight, out of mind

Stop your ex from intruding back into your life by collecting the photos of them and hiding them away. Better yet – remove them completely. Psychologically, if you see their face every day, how on earth are you going to move on? The same goes for gifts they gave you or knick-knacks you collected together.

#2 Clean your social media list

We are all familiar with the temptation of just having a ‘quick look’ at their facebook page or ‘accidentally’ landing on their twitter stream. Remove, block and cleanse these for the sake of your sanity. After all, they are essentially a game. You can always reinstall them later.

#3 Make new memories

Your mind is hooked on your ex because you have many shared memories. In fact, you just need to make new ones with different people. Ask your friends to accompany you in a new dance class or go to a language exchange. Doing something different will bring new challenges and therefore new memories.

#4 Rearrange

One of the most therapeutic ways to move on from a break up is by having a good old fashioned spring clean and going through everything. A change does you good, and relocating the furniture to make the room seem different has an empowering psychological effect. Better yet, hire a professional company to do the cleaning for you and then all you need to do is a bit of interior design!

With these changes in place, you’ll feel new again!
