The Coopers had recently completed a substantial renovation on their 19th-century stone cottage in the picturesque village of Wylam. The project included:
- A loft conversion to add a third bedroom
- Complete rewiring and plastering throughout the home
- A newly fitted country-style kitchen
- Sanding and varnishing of original timber floors
Although the builders had removed their tools and bulk debris, a thick layer of fine plaster dust remained throughout the home. The wooden floors were dulled by residue, the walls showed smears from builder hands, and protective plastic left glue marks on windows and skirting.
